4-7 January 2016 – TISLR 12 conference

On 4-7 January 2016, the 12th edition of the Theoretical Issues in Sign Language Research conference was held in Australia, at which 4 poster presentations were delivered by members of the Section for Sign Linguistics.

29th December 2015 – ministry scholarship attained

We are pleased to announce that Małgorzata Talipska, a member of the research team of the Section for Sign Linguistics, has won a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the 2015/2016 academic year.

2nd November, 2015 – article on the negation in Polish Sign Language

It is our pleasure to inform that in the volume “Methodologies in linguistics. From dialectology to dialectic.” (in : Łódzkie Studia z Językoznawstwa Angielskiego i Ogólnego, nr 4, red. Piotr Stalmaszczyk, Łódź: Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego) appeared an article by PLM researchers.

1st October, 2015 – electronic version of “Space and motion linguistics” volume

We are happy to share an electronic version of “Space and motion linguistics. Signed communication and corpus methods” volume edited by Paweł Rutkowski and Sylwia Łozińska.

28th – 29th September, 2015 – presentations at 73rd conference of Polish Linguistic Society in Kielce

From 28th – 29th September, 2015 at the University of Jan Kochanowski in Kielce took place the 73rd Congress of the Polish Linguistic Society entitled ""Granice interpretacji lingwistycznej" (“The limits of interpretation”).

During the event two speeches concerning Polish Sign Language have been presented.

21st September, 2015 – a book edited by Rutkowski

A book "Signs and Structures. Formal Approaches to Sign Language Syntax" edited by Paweł Rutkowski has been issued by John Benjamins publishing house.

28th July, 2015 – film on the Section for Sign Linguistics

15th May, 2015 - TOK FM radio programme

On 15th May, 2015 Paweł Rutkowski (PhD) has been a guest to Cezary Łasiczka from TOK FM radio. The talks concerned the Ukrainian-Dutch film „Plemię” („Tribe”) made entirely in sign language.

27th March, 2015 – the end of professor Trevor Johnston’s visit

On 27th March the one-month stay of Trevor Johnston (a professor of sign linguistics at Linguistic Department of Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia) at Section for Sign Linguistics has come to an end. The visit of professor Johnston was concerned with the realization of the grant “Multilevel linguistic annotation of PJM corpus” funded from the National Programme for Human Sciences Development.

February, 2015 – works on Corpus Dictionary of PJM

The further works on the first dictionary of the Polish Sign Language based entirely on the source material derived from PJM’s corpus continue. The dictionary is financially supported by the National Science Centre as a part of the project “Iconicity in grammar and lexis of PJM”.

15th December 2014 – further parts of "Our ABC"

According to the order of the Ministry of National Education the Section for Sign Linguistics has developed an adaptation of the further volumes of “Our ABC” textbook for pupils with special educational needs including deaf students who use PJM.

14th December 2014 – NCN’s grant for Anna Kuder

We are happy to inform that in the last contest of the National Science Centre (NCN) Anna Kuder from our Section has been awarded a PRELUDUIM grant for research on manual and non-manual negation indicators in Polish Sign Language.
