30th January 2017 – Language and Rights

Dr Paweł Rutkowski became a member of the “Language and Rights” Working Group set up by the European Language Council (Conseil Européen pour les Langues). It will investigate issues related to linguistic rights, particularly the communication rights of individuals who are not fluent in the language of the country where they reside: immigrants, refugees, asylum-seekers, tourists, and also members of linguistic minorities (including the Deaf). Cases in which such rights are not respected by institutions of public authority may be considered violations of the principles enshrined in such international documents as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the European Convention on Human Rights, and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
