18th April 2017 – collaboration with the Laboratory of Brain Imaging at the Nencki Institute

Collaborative efforts continue between the Section for Sign Linguistics at the University of Warsaw and the Laboratory of Brain Imaging at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology. In April, at the Learning and Plasticity (LaP) conference in Äkäslompolo, Finland, a poster was presented entitled "Time-course of semantic processing in hearing adults during Polish Sign Language acquisition: A longitudinal study". It discusses the initial results of a study on the acquisition of PJM by hearing persons. Researchers from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and San Diego State University have collaborated on the project together with colleagues in Warsaw. The authors of the poster presented in Finland include Anna Banaszkiewicz, Jacek Matuszewski, Łukasz Bola, Michał Szczepanik, Bartosz Kossowski, Paweł Rutkowski, Marcin Szwed, Karen Emmorey, Katarzyna Jednoróg, and Artur Marchewka.

16th May 2016 – Prof. Karen Emmorey in Warsaw

On 15 May 2016 we held a first meeting involving Professor Karen Emmorey from San Diego State University and members of the Laboratory of Brain Imaging (Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology, Polish Academy of Sciences) and the Sign Language Section. We talked about PJM-related projects underway at the University of Warsaw – the corpus, dictionary, and school textbook adaptations we are working on.
